Kirk Levington Detention Centre – join the Group Action
Welcome to the Kirk Levington Group Action which includes any person who alleges sexual or physical abuse whilst attending Kirk Levington Dentention Centre. Kirk Levington was operated by the Home Office, now the Ministry of Justice, which housed boys aged 14-17 serving sentences of between three weeks and four months.
Kirklevington became an adult male resettlement prison in 1992.
Current Legal Status
According to a report by the BBC, in excess of 350 former inmates of HMP Kirklevington detention centre have come forward with allegations of abuse. There is an ongoing inquiry into the alleged abuse, Operation Magnolia, which has seen two men arrested earlier this year but who were released without charge. However, police have said the inquiry is ongoing into claims of physical and sexual abuse. The alleged abuse was said to have taken place between the 1960s and the 1990s.
Ex inmates have questioned why the media have seemed to focus primarily on alleged abuse at Medomsley Detention Centre, when Kirklevington was “more feared”.
Our specialist abuse solicitors at Simpson Millar are representing former inmates of Kirklevington in their compensation claims against the Ministry of Justice.
We advise anybody who may have been affected by abuse at Kirklevington or Medomsley Detention Centre to report the abuse to the police in order to assist with their ongoing investigations.
