Cheadle Hulme solicitors Abney Garsden McDonald are celebrating success after winning ‘small law firm of the year’ in this year’s Manchester Legal Awards. The glittering awards ceremony held in Manchester was organised by the Manchester Law Society and was introduced to showcase the huge wealth of legal
talent in the region.
Abney Garsden McDonald solicitors, who last year celebrated their 25th anniversary specialise in family law, accidents,
wills & probate and abuse. It was the firm’s work with child abuse victims that led to them winning Personal Injury Team of the Year at a separate awards ceremony held in November 2010.
More than 280 entries were received for this year’s awards. Manchester Law Society president Nick Davenport said: “The number of entries was up by 40 per cent on last year and it was extremely difficult to choose the winners. Being on the judging panel for the small firm of the year category caused more difficulties than any other as there were so many outstanding entries.”
In entering Law Firm of the Year Abney Garsden McDonald had to demonstrate, in the context of their size, successful implementation of their strategic goals. This was shown by the development of new practice areas and new client initiatives, strategic consolidation, financial and management performance in the sector, responding to the emerging legal services agenda and responding to the current financial context.
Commenting on the awards, Managing Partner Peter Garsden said: “I am delighted to have won Small Firm of the Year. It feels very humbling to be chosen out of so many other deserving law firms. I accept the
award on behalf of my staff without whom we could not have achieved what must be one of the most prestigious local accolades there is.”
