The Manchester Evening News have reported on an earlier story of child abuse at St Anne’s Catholic School in Ancoates and how since the original story, 20 further men have come forward to say they were abused by a primary school headmaster.
Many have said they were sexually assaulted either at the swimming baths or after showering at the school, which no longer exists.
They alleged Mulligan would make them stand naked while he ‘checked’ if they were dry – which involved him groping and fondling them. Some said they were also taken to his office and molested.
Peter Garsden, solicitor at Simpson Millar, said: “In cases where abuse took place in an institution, the chances of the incident being isolated are extremely slight.
“I have no doubt that the process of telling their stories has been of enormous cathartic effect.
“If anyone else knows anything about this case, I am appealing to them to come forward so that we can obtain more useful information. I am sure that there are more people out there who can help.”
